Gravity Zero

Japanese web mag, the Openers features a whole editorial, dedicated to Giuliano Fujiwara, one of the greatest representatives of minimalistic menswear.
Complete runway looks are captured from the spring/summer '09 collection, designed by Masataka Matsumura.
The editorial presents signature Giuliano Fujiwara numbers, clear shapes, simple cuts, high-tech materials and some amazing geometrical accessories.

Like a piece of impermanence bottled for the moment after present time.

Complexgeometries S/S '09

Complexgeometries is a very fresh Canadian brand, created by designer Clayton Evans in 2005.
His starting point is traditional streetwear, but he mixes the standards, reconsiderates the aesthetic and functional roles of shapes and creates his unique, comfortable, refined pieces. The women and men collections are not separated, they belong strongly together, and form a rounded whole.

About the spring/summer '09 collection of Complexgeometries:

"Inspired by the culture of mobility, the Complexgeometries SS09 collection explores the pragmatics and aesthetics of travel.

Functionally, items are designed to be versatile, light and easy to move. Crumpled silk packs small. Coated fabrics stay clean and dry. Light construction means items can be layered, even in warm climates. Draped dresses and vests provide enough space to carry the whole wardrobe in cleverly disguised pockets.

Traditional clothing from around the world also influences the look of the collection. Specifically, souvenir clothing favoured by Western travelers is further decontextualized in reinterpretation." ~ Complexgeometries

Robert Geller S/S '09

My Dear Readers!
First of all, I have to apologize for the lack of updates recently. I had a short spring break with my friends. But now I'm back on the board, and have a lot of exciting ideas in my mind!
After this short intermezzo, Miska continues his long journey on the virtual highway of fashion! I know, I've posted more menswear in the past few weeks, I'm collecting interesting news for the ladies, and working on some posts as well. Stay tuned!

For now, here are some photos from the spring/summer '09 lookbook of Robert Geller. Former trainee at Marc Jacobs and co-designer of Cloak' menswear, launched his own line for the fall season of 2007. This year, Robert Geller was the winner of the second annual “Best New Menswear Designers in America” project by GQ.

His collection for the spring/summer '09 season has a strong romantic-edge, spiced with some nostalgic-touch and fine craftsmanship of course. The silhouettes are very traditional, elegant and masculine with some dreamy detailing and sophisticated styling.

Dior Homme S/S '09 ADs

It wasn't love at first sight, and I'm still not sure about the whole Dior Homme collection for this season. Maybe I'm still suffering from a post-Slimane-syndrome. I don't feel that cohesive force, or that strong concept, what made me fell in love with the brand, in the Hedi Slimane-times. But truth to say, there were finally some outstanding pieces in this collection by Kris van Assche.
It's very interesting to see, how different can be the atmosphere of the fashion show and the ad campaign. What I disliked about the styling of the show, that I love in the campaign pictures, photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, featuring model Marlon Teixeira.

My absolute favourite is the white cotton shirt with cutouts (featured in the ad photos as well). It reminds me of the ornaments, we put on our windows at Christmas-time. Very sophisticated, very clean, and very androgynous!

Julia And Ben SS '09

Julia and Ben are a promising designer-duo from Germany. They graduated in 2006 from ESMOD Fashion School Berlin and established their brand together. Their second collection for the spring/summer '09 season, called "Beauty is my boy", is a relaxed and very chic mix of experimental and more traditional menswear pieces.

J&B like to play with contrast, with masculine and feminine details, avantgarde and classic styles. They are inspired a lot by street style, but presented in a very smart way.
They just opened their flagship store, JB Space in Berlin, which was previously Ben's art gallery in the art district of the German capital.

Their Fall '09 collection and womenswear are very unique ones as well, you can bank upon reviews about them from me very soon.

I wish you, Julia and Ben a bright future in fashion, and many more interesting collections together.

Spring Breeze

Officially it's already spring. No matter, that the temperature is hardly below zero, and I can even see snow on the streets, I feel thirst for a few sleepy sunbursts and some tepid zephyrs.

Well, the wheather is still cold, but there is at least J. W. Anderson's S/S '09 collection, entitled "An eye for an eye", which irradiated this raw afternoon of mine.

The collection of the London-based Irishman was full of referencies and symbols of prior times, but not in the retro way. The concept based on the combination of timeless menswear-pieces and unusal accessories. Natural materials, pale colours, refreshed shapes, some fairy atmosphere, traditional masculinity and some very chic mustard knitwear, are a few details to describe the collection.

I think, spring's mercury has arrived.

Summary

I'm back from my 4-day-long weekend from Budapest, and now try to be as up-to-date as I can.

Like all the good things, the London fashion week ended a few days ago. I ran a little bit out of time, but there are still some shows, which I will write about later.

In summary, London is alright. After the emptyness, and movelessness of New York, London was all about ideas, power and playfulness. The energy of all the young talents charged the runways of the fashion week.

Now the whole circus has moved to Milan already. I'm not really into Italian glamour, but I keep my eyes on the runways. Actually, I didn't expect much interesting moments from Milan, but surprisingly the Missoni collection was a highlight of the season (review coming later).

Until I'm ready with the new posts, let me introduce you this incredible photo from Calvin Klein's SS'09 AD campaign, photographed by David Sims, with the strongest and most promising fresh-face of the Russian model army, Anna Selezneva.

Giuliano Fujiwara AD S/S09

Photographer - Emilio Tini
Model - Josh Beech

I thought Josh Beech is just a fluker, so far. None of his former editorials were special in my eyes. But I have to say, he convinced me with these magnificent Fujiwara campaign pictures, even I couldn't do a better job.
The only word in my mind is, perfection.

Vital Statues

Prada Menswear AD SS09
Photos - Hedi Slimane
Models - Louis Simonon and Claude Simonon

Love the shapes, the lights and shadows, the structures, the background, and even the clothes (after last seasons horror, i need time to find my lost trust in Prada).
Hedi Slimane is a genius. I wish it was me in these photos. Maybe my moment will come, once.
